Working as an airport Fire Fighter

There a many important jobs at East Midlands Airport but the airport would not be allowed to operate without the Fire and Rescue Service on site.

Fire Fighters’ main job is aircraft safety. If the alarm sounds, Fire Fighters must get to any emergency on the airfield within two minutes. Fire Fighters are First Responders so will be called to help with medical emergencies anywhere on site, too.

A day in the life of an Aviation Fire Fighter

Lewis was a firefighter with the Royal Air Force before joining East Midlands Airport. In this video he talks through his typical day and explains what it’s like to respond to an incident at the airport. He also offers some good advice for young people who are considering becoming an airport fire fighter.
