Working in Airport and Airside Operations

When most people think of airports they think of Pilots and Cabin Crew, but it is the airlines, not airports, that actually employ Pilots and Cabin Crew. East Midlands Airport has a wide variety of exciting, demanding and rewarding jobs. Some of these are in Airport Operations.

Working in Airport Management

Howard is a Commercial Director at East Midlands Airport and manages a team of 12 people. He looks after all relationships between airlines, shops, restaurants and car hire companies and East Midlands Airport. He relies heavily on maths and marketing to do his job. This is important because Howard’s team generates £100,000,000.00 per year for the airport.

Corporate and Social Responsibility

Gilly works in the Corporate Social Responsibility team. This team looks after the airport’s relationships with its neighbours. Gilly has worked in Travel and Tourism for most of her career. First of all, she worked in a travel agency, then she moved to England where she joined an airline based at East Midlands Airport. She worked on the ticket desk, then check in and then Cabin Crew. Gilly then decided to change career and trained to be a Teacher. She now combines her experience of working at the airport with her teaching skills to welcome school visits to the airport’s Aerozone education centre and role-play facility.

Academy Coordinator

Dave wanted to be a sports photographer at the start of his career. Now he enjoys supporting young people and the long-term unemployed back into work through East Midlands Airport’s commitment to its local community.

Dave has had a long career with East Midlands Airport. He started out with the airport police, which became airport security. He worked his way up through a variety of roles and now his job is to help people to find work at the airport or elsewhere by supporting them to develop their employability skills.

Airport Duty Manager

Ella-Dee talks about the qualifications she gained that have helped her become successful in her role as a Duty Manager at the airport. She rates team work, working well under pressure and learning a second language as the key skills that have helped her achieve success in her career.
